Last Day of School

Yesterday was a very bitter sweet day. It was the last day of school. Caleb finished 3rd grade and Emily finished 1st grade. My how time flies. It seems like only yesterday that they were home with me.

They both had a hard time with the last day. Mrs. Tarleton said that Caleb has been quiet all day. Poor Emily kept hugging her teach, Mrs Garcia, when I picked her up.

The school will be getting a new principal and vice-principal next year. Next school year will be a
bustle of changes.

Here's to a great summer!

Muscles

Lunch time can be very interesting around here sometimes. Last week, Micah and I sat down for lunch. I was zoned out in la la land when I saw him attempting to open the ranch dressing. Of course, I imagine ranch all over the plate. Trying to avoid the mess, I say "Micah, let me help you with that." "No mom, do it myself. I stronger then you. See my big muscles." At this point he flexed his biceps. Needless to say, he may have strong muscles but he still had plenty of help with the ranch.

You know...

you're a Twilight fan when
1. You've lost count as to how many times you read the books
2. You went to the midnight release party for the DVD
3. You have made your husband watch the movie twice and you've doubled that
4. When you pass a Twilight poster at Blockbuster and your 3 year old says "Mommy, I want to watch Tiwight."

Ahhh, I guess the fever has taken over the Moon household.

Cuteness

Micah woke up with the "big kids" this morning. He started off the morning super cute.

"Mommy, where's my backpack?", as he is holding one of the school snacks up.

A little while later, he came up to me and whispered something to me. I asked him to repeat it to me. "Mommy, I'm going to kick you butt." Lovely.

"Are you weady for cool guys? Are you weady for cool guys?"

Not all can be well that early, though. Somehow Caleb hit Micah in the eye, which of course landed us with tears.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the rest of the day with my boy. An hour short of sleep is not a good thing with our smallest monkey.

Vegas Baby!

While in Vegas at our friends wedding, we stayed at the Luxor. We watched the show Believe, and stayed in one of the pyramid rooms (although the side ways elevator made me dizzy each time).

It was a whirl wind trip. Meet and Greet dinner complete with showgirls and Elvis. Can you say a" Hunk, a Hunk of Burnin Love"? The dinner was followed out with the bachelorette party. We went clubbing in the night clubs of Vegas.

The wedding was the next day. Cindy made a beautiful bride. I can not imagine a sweeter ceremony. It was very beautiful. We celebrated with them with a nice dinner.

This made a nice get away for Aaron and I. We had a blast.

What's new...

It has been awhile since I last updated. Sorry about that! I have recently started working around 10 hours a week at the local YMCA. I work in the child watch area. I watch the kiddos while mom and dad workout. Hmmm... not so sure this was a good idea. It's nice to get out of the house but some days it gets CRAZY!

Caleb and Emily were picked to be in a art show at school. Only 10% of the student body are chosen to participate. Emily made a Bevo as in UTAustin's mascot and Caleb made a transformer.

After having a wonderful month in April, Aaron is in a cardiology rotation for the month of May. It has been very demanding on the whole family.

The highlight of the last month was the wedding of our friends, Cindy and Richard. We got the opportunity to go to Vegas to participate in their wedding. Congrats, Cindy and Richard!

I'll try to update more often. Keep checking back for updates and other fun stories from My Monkeys and Me.

Car Wash

Aaron took my van to the car wash a few weeks back. (We love this one because it is $3 for the wash and UNLIMITED vacuum!!!! The owner must have a minivan with kids.) Micah, of course, thought that the car wash was "awesome."

It has been raining today so the roads have quit a bit of water on them. We were driving home today and hit a low area. All the water went all over the van. Micah said to me "Mom, that was cool. Car wash in the street."

Aren't kids great!

Grossenough

We are going to be having beef stroganoff for dinner tonight. I remembered about the first time we served it to Micah a few weeks back.

Emily "Mommy, what is that?"

Me "Beef Stroganoff"

Micah "Grossanoff"

I love it! We will always have beef grossanoff from now on!

Technology

Yesterday at lunch, Emily asked what I didn't have when I was little. Caleb then asked if I had an IPhone. "No, no IPhone." "Did you have a cell phone?" asked Caleb again. I began to list the things that are around today but that we didn't have when I was little.

cell phones
Internet
camera that you can see the picture on
Wii
Corded phones
on, and on, and on

At the end, both Caleb and Emily looked shocked. "Really", said Caleb. "What did you do for fun?" "I bet you played bubble gum, bubble gum in a dish. All you need is your fingers for that game." "I am not that old. We did have an Atari and a Nintendo."

All of this made my realize just how far technology has come. I wonder what my grandchildren will be asking Caleb, Emily, and Micah what they didn't have when they were kids.

Snickers

Yesterday, we received our new automated trash cans. It took a while to get them in the garage due to all the old containers still being in the garage.(Can't wait for big trash day in March!) Well, Snickers must have gotten in the garage during the day at some point and then escaped through the open door when no one was watching. We have been unable to find him.

Tonight we made fliers and posted them on the mailboxes. Emily is having a hard time with Snickers being gone. She was crying tonight. Micah wanted to know why she was crying. "Why you crying Em? Did Daddy give you a shot in your butt?" It was nice to have a little bit of laughter while everyone is so sad.

We hope Snickers returns soon!

Art!

Both of these pictures were made by Emily. The first picture is a response to "I am a volunteer" and the second is her Valentine's Day card for Micah. Wow!

Shower surprise

I was bathing Micah and Emily tonight. I get both of them washed and rinsed off. I grab the towel and Micah says "I go pee." Well, I don't think much of that because he always goes at the beginning of the bath. I turn around as Emily is trying to back up as far as possible. Micah is peeing on her feet. She wasn't sure if she was grossed out or if it was hilarious. BOYS!

Pants!

Before I start this entry, Caleb and Emily only have about 4 pairs of pants......
(Hmmm... how can I keep my children from putting holes in pants?)

BUT:

Caleb has been telling me every morning that he is out of pants in his dresser. I think that is strange because I have been doing laundry non-stop. Well, I think "Maybe they are in the huge pile of unfolded laundry." I HATE folding!! Yep, one pair. So I dig through all the hampers and find all the dark clothes I could find. I wash darks AGAIN. Then pile the clothes in the to be folded pile. Next morning, "Mom, I'm out of pants again." What? I've washed all of the darks. How can this be?

I was going on my "hanger hunt" this morning. (You know, perhaps I should really fold the clothes) What do I find? Two pairs of dirty pants on the floor of the closet.

Grrrrrrrrr

"Something DANGEROUS!"

Here is a facebook message I received from Micah's Sunbeam teacher.

I have to tell you the funniest thing that happened in Sunbeams today: We were singing "Do As I'm Doing", and we asked Micah what he wanted to do. After thinking for a little bit, he got the cutest little grin on his face and said "Something DANGEROUS!"It cracked me up!

He is such a crazy little guy.

Earning Caleb's Wolf Badge

Aaron had yesterday off so we decided to work on Caleb's wolf badge. We went on a hike out at Eisenhower Park. Caleb planned a picnic for us, also. Our hike was a little too long for Micah. He had to sit on every big "wock" that he saw. Of course, once we got back to the play scape, he could play and run around.

Pink!

Micah and I were eating lunch just now. Here is our conversation:

Me: "Micah, would you like some milk with your crackers?"
Micah: "Yep."
Me: "Would you like strawberry milk?"
Micah: "Yep."

I proceed to make Micah's strawberry milk. I then give the cup to him and turn around to make my Caffeine Free Diet Dr. Pepper.

Micah: "I don't like it."

I think to myself: What? He used to love it. I decide to give it another try by putting the glass to his lips.

Micah: "I don't like it. It's Emily's. It's PINK."

Ahh! I get it. Pink is for girls, Blue is for boys. So much for trying not to teach stereotypes.

Micah's a sunbeam!

With the start of a new year comes lots of new things, new changes, and new goals. Some of these new things have come as a shock to this monkey momma.

Each year in January, the children in our church move up to the next class. This makes Caleb a CTR (CTR stand for Choose The Right) 9 and Emily will be a CTR 7. Our not so little "baby", Micah, will be a Sunbeam! This puts him in big kid primary. He is no longer in nursery with the little ones.

I thought that he would have a hard time with this transition. We sang the sunbeam song and talked about having new teacher. We even took him to the meet the teacher breakfast that our very insightful primary president held. Now comes the first Sunday in January...

I help his hand down the hall to his new big boy class. He saw his teacher, walked into his class and sat down on a chair. What?! Umm, what happened to my little "baby" who screamed every time a left him in nursery, at a baby sitter, or at the gym? As I walked back to my class, my heart was breaking. My baby is now a "big boy" who doesn't need his mommy.
