I know that all of you know about the historic election that took place this month. This entry is not about adult politics but p0litics through the eyes of children. Well, my children, at least.
The school spent most of the month talking to the children about politics. This turned into conversations on the play yard and eventually into car rides and dinner conversation.
C is a staunch McCain supported. Why you might ask?
1. Following a drive through trip to Taco Cabana, C mentioned his support of McCain. Aaron and I both asked why. In his duh voice, "Obama has brown skin mom" WHAT? Did a child of mine just say that?! Keep in mind that I was driving. We just about wrecked before Aaron asured me that this is probably a normal response for children to have about people who are different.
Reason number 2: Here is a discussion had after the children "voted" at their school:
A: "Why did you vote for McCain?"
C: "McCain is for the war. We can't have peace. We need our freedom."
Hmm...Sounds like we need to do some serious reteaching.
E is much more simplistic. "McCain is too old."
C and E were so excited about this election that they watched the votes come in along side A and I. It was difficult to get them to go to bed. C was disappointed the next day. E was her normal self.
I wonder if this excitement about politics will last until they can vote. I hope so.

My kids were equally excited. Even Elizabeth was expressing her desire for who she wanted in office. (The only Democrat in our household Haha) Interesting how much it mattered to them this year. It prompted alot of conversation in our home as well.
